Welcome To Edgar Brothers
Edgar Brothers is a family owned working Angus ranch located in central South Dakota. For the past 60 years our goals have stayed the same, to raise big, thick cattle that are functional. Our main aim is for the commercial cattleman, because after all, they are the heart and soul of the cattle industry. We feel our cattle compliment the needs of the commercial cattlemen. These cattle are bred by cattlemen for cattlemen!
When Dick and Doug Edgar started out so many years ago they realized there need to be a change in the cattle industry. They found that change in Angus cattle. Now, many years later, things are still changing, but one thing has stayed the same; the power of the Angus genetics that still thrive here today. Over the past 60 years, Edgar Brothers has evolved into one of the largest Angus herds in South Dakota.
Since Dick and Doug's start, Dick's boys, Bruce and Mark, have joined the operation, followed by their sons; Cody, Kyle, Derek, Brock, and Brady. Family values have always been a huge part of our operation. Working together is what has made our ranch run as smoothly as it has and will continue to do so for years to come.
In 1953 Dick and Doug Edgar purchased their first two Angus pairs from Lester Hurlbut and Sons of Raymond, SD. This would mark the beginning of Edgar Brothers. Things weren't very easy in the beginning though. No one had ever seen anything but a hereford in this country. At the sale barns they would sort the black cattle off and sell them after the Herefords; Dick says things have changed!
We start calving in January, so we must have heated facilities to keep calves warm!
